[info]matt_wallace, who I can honestly say is one of my favorite new authors out there, is interviewed over at Apex Online where he talks about his feud with Scott Sigler, his upcoming short story collection (The Next Fix -- sorry, dude, nothing to hyperlink to), and Diablo Cody (the former who has always wanted to be mentioned in the same sentence as the latter, I'm guessing).  And me!  Albeit briefly.  You have to scroll waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down and squint to make it out, but I'm there.  It's not world domination of the like Wallace and Sigler long for, but it does somehow manage to get me grinning like an idiot, which is more than enough for now.  Thanks, Matt.  You the bomb in Deck Gibson, yo!

There's also an old interview republished with [info]jenwrites, another favorite who also has an upcoming short story collection (Unwelcome Bodies) coming out very soon, which unfortunately does not feature me.  I'm willing to overlook that, though, considering she didn't know me back when it was first published.  (Was April of 2006 really that long ago?)  And in typical Pelland fashion, she manages to inspire.  Over 200 rejections at the time of the interview?  Shit, I'm still building toward 50 today!

If you're looking for part of the influence of my Krylyr/Neverwhere split-personality from the friendly neigborhood web-Dave you know and love, you have to look no further.  (Sigler, if you're reading this, you're alright in my book, too.  No matter what Wallace says.)

Just in case you haven't seen this skit from the Daily Show writers on the WGA strike, it's worth checking out.

Also I wanted to give a shout-out about the Apex Digest subscription drive. They reprinted "Last Respects" on their online fiction market, and they're running a drive to increase the amount they pay their authors. They're minimum goal is to add 100 subscriptions in November, and right now they're around 40 subscriptions away still. The more subscriptions they get, the more they pay for their stories. So if you've got a few extra bucks lying around, and you want some dark SF, of if you'd like to stuff something shocking in a stocking, think about picking up a subscription.

Last Respects is up at Apex Online and my, oh, my, does it look good on their site, if I do say so myself.  Check it out.

I was talking to Zak last week about writing playlists.  Usually, I create playlists on my ipod when I'm working on a story -- some good mood music for when I'm writing.  But I realized today that I had not created a playlist for Last Respects.  That seemed shameful, so I thought it might be fun to hear from everyone what songs *you* would put on the Last Respects Soundtrack.  Thoughts?

Also, for my VP buddies, there's an Easter egg in the story that I don't think anyone has yet detected (and no, it's not Hats of War).  Hint: It has to do with one of my fantastic VP instructors.
