Hug an Escape Artist! We'll Give You More Free Stories!

I’m under the impression that the majority of the people who read this blog listen to (or have listened to) an episode of Escape Pod, Pseudopod, or PodCastle at some point in time.

So here’s the deal: I’m declaring the next month I <3 Escape Artists Month. I haven’t talked to any of the other staff about doing this, really – it’s an entirely homegrown idea. What I’m asking you to do is simple: sign up at forum.escapeartists.net and comment on a story there that's meant something to you. Then, PM me, and I’ll write, record, and email you a special original Halloween flash fiction story. I don’t know exactly what the story/stories will be: It could be Halloween Space Opera, it could be something actually scary, it could be something so candy-corn sweet it makes your skin crawl! I dunno. Maybe all three? All I can promise is I’ll write the best stories I can and send them out to anyone who PMs me on the EA forum. Currently, I am not planning to put these stories anywhere else, and I expect to be emailing people stories in October.

I’m doing this for a couple of reasons. First, I want more people to sign up and post at EA. Specifically at PodCastle, but I’ll be equally happy if people sign up at EP and PP, too. Pseudopod’s currently on hiatus until October, Escape Pod just came back from one. Not that there's anything to worry about, mind you. Just to say we all put a lot of work into to these podcasts, and it’s strictly a labor of love, because we believe in what we’re doing, and what Steve Eley created with Escape Pod. Also, I know a lot of people love these podcasts but sometimes are too busy or forget to comment, so I want to provide an extra excuse to gush about them to the people who help put them together. Not me – although I admit I do love to hear people gushing about me. But specifically for the other editors, authors, sound producers, and especially the narrators. It’s not always easy, and a lot of times, we’re getting up very early or staying up very late to bring these stories to you. So if you dig what we’re doing, let us know. The final reason is, I really, really like Halloween stories, and I like writing Halloween stories, so it’d be fun to write a few more of them. I don’t know how many of these stories I’m going to write. I am seriously considering writing three, but we’ll see.

Just to be clear:

Yes, to do this, you must sign up at the Escape Artists forums, comment on a story, and PM me. If you’re already signed up – awesome. All you have to do is PM me. Don’t email instead, because I’ll just say the same thing, and that kind of defeats the purpose of signing up and commenting.

If you've got questions, I'll see you in the comments!

UPDATED: Alasdair Stuart emailed me to say he’s going to play along, and he’ll also write and record a story for people sign up. So free stories from me and Al! What are you waiting for?
