Today, I'm Part of Something Bigger

I feel that's true every week, actually - whenever I'm hosting PodCastle.

However, I had the immense privilege of being asked to record Ferrett Steinmetz's story "Devour" for Escape Pod, and I have to say, I'm incredibly proud to have been a part of bringing this one to the audience. When you read a story, you go over it and over it and over it, and I was (once again) impressed by how much Ferrett packed into his story. This is a dark story, but it's the best kind of dark - brimming over with humanity and love.

Ferrett's a writer to keep your eyes on, if you aren't already.

It's also an Escape Pod original, so this is currently the only place you can listen to (or read) it.

Thank you, Claire! If you get a chance, check out his story "'Run!' Bakri Says" - it ran in Asimov's, but I think it'll be at EP sometime in the future.

He's had a couple stories at PodCastle I'm (obviously) fond of, as well!

Holy shit, man. That was some story. Your narration was perfect- just enough inflection to sell it without overplaying it. Well done. I usually feel annoyed and manipulated by "power of love" stories, but this one didn't spark my usual reflexive ire, so you and Ferrett must have done something right. Thanks!

A comment I got left today:

"I listen to
podcasts while biking to work (bad cyclist, I know). This one, I had to
stop at a park to sit and listen to, since biking and crying is generally
a bad idea. Wow. This story was amazing, thank you. "

Nice! Thanks for passing that along.
